Explore the Thinglink below to see how I embed technology into the classroom to help students develop communication, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration skills.
The SAMR model is a framework for teachers' use of technology with their students. It supports the intentional use of technology and not "tech use for the sake of using tech." Explore the SAMR model and ask your self the following questions:
Which technologies will you integrate into globalized classroom?
For what purpose(s)?
Where does your use of technology fit into the SAMR model?
REflections on technology use
Technology integration can impact instruction on many levels. According to the SAMR Model, technology can be used to substitute for tasks done prior to use of computers, augment performance tasks, modify learning environments, and redefine performance opportunities and content learning.
Technology can help you individualize instruction. Programs such as Actively Learn, BrainRush, Quizlet, Kahoot allows students to receive immediate feedback so student can track their learning. Instructional strategies supported by technology such as a flipped classroom learning environment, also allows for more individualized instruction. Since course content lectures are recorded, students can access the instruction 24/7 and re-listen to lecture as many times as they need. By removing the teacher centered lecture style, teachers are more available to interact and work individually with students or in small groups.
Technology allows students be producers in addition to consumers of digital information. Technology such as, PowToon, Twitter, blogs, websites, meme generators and Google Classroom, allows students the to opportunity to produce content. Heidi Hayes in her Ted Talk advocates for upgrading assessment. For example, instead of giving an oral report about Benjamin Franklin, create a Facebook page for Franklin.
